The hard push into Formula One racing came when Rossi tested the 2009-spec BMW Sauber Formula One car as part of Formula Ones young driver test in Jerez by winning the Formula BMW World Final. The test earned Rossi his FIA Super License and he is currently the only American to hold one. In 2010, Rossi made the move to the new GP3 Series, competing for ART Grand Prix. He won twice and finishing fourth in the series After competing in GP3, Rossi went into the Formula Renault 3.5 Series with Fortec Motorsport where he won the opening race of the season held in Aragón and his second race at Le Castellet. He finished third place in the championship On March 9, 2012 he was chosen as the test driver for the Caterham F1 team, working with reserve driver Giedo van der Garde.
